Welcome to Wrens
We are a wonderful bunch of Year 1 and 2s, there are only 12 of us,
14 including our teachers Miss Scholz and Miss Ward.
We are supported by Mrs Sedgbeer and Ms Rutherford.
We enjoy learning and ensure we are having fun too!
Parents: for more detailed information on your child's time in Wrens, including what they are learning each term and homework, please see the letter below 'Welcome Letter'
English
In English, we explore a wide range of texts and spend time inventing our own pieces of writing to target specific audiences. We use the 'Talk for Writing' approach and enjoy learning and remembering texts to help us with the inventing of our own texts.
Maths
Maths is taught through White Rose and supports our learning through developing our understanding in small progressive steps. As with much of mathematics, the key to fluency is in making connections, and making them at the right time in a child's learning. We learn by moving from the concrete to the abstract and structured apparatus such as Dienes can be helpful for learning about place value or number bonds for example. We promote the independent use of manipulatives to support learning in the classroom.
Enquiry based learning
Alongside our Maths and English curriculum, we use topic-based learning to inspire us about history, geography, art and much more! We have 'Big Questions' that help us hook our learning and enables us to dig deeper into everything we do.
This term our topic is 'We Do Like To Be Beside the Seaside'. We are focusing on Geography and History to explore this further, looking at the big question 'How have holidays in Devon changed over time?'
Every topic also has a visitor or trip, as well as immersion days.
This term we have a Big Beach Day planned, we are very excited about it!
Our PE days are Thursday and Friday
